A History of Sustainable Growth: Amistad Industrial Group

Without losing sight of the three pillars of the business: construction, manufacture, and real estate (since 1986), Amistad was founded in 1978 by Don Jesús María Ramón Valdés with the creation of the first industrial park in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila.

In 2018 with the issue of Development Capital Certificates, Amistad entered and began operating with sustainable growth in the Mexican Stock Exchange, combining its financial capacity with its wide knowledge of the real estate market and the experience of the integral construction division.

44 years after its foundation, this family-owned and managed company has acquired more than 2.3 million square meters of industrial space that holds more than 161 world class companies and a little over 255 thousand jobs, both direct and indirect. It has also taken part in the construction of 16 industrial parks around the country, besides the construction of industrial areas, representing more than 3 thousand developed hectares.

Commercial partner of Amistad Industrial Group since 2014, Sloan has been present in their parks around the country, granting a functional and integral industrial solution under important health and sustainability criteria.

The quality of Sloan products, the use of technology to save water, and the use of stations and sinks inside industrial plants have made it possible for Amistad, considered one of the top 5 most important industrial developers in Mexico and internationally renowned, to obtain LEED GOLD from Green Building Council and Smart Blue certifications for fulfilling their ecological norms.

Among the industrial parks in which Sloan has presence are Milwaukee, in Torreón, Coahuila; Ikano and Lennox Martinrea, in Ramos Arizpe, Saltillo, Coahuila and Mubea, in Celaya, Guanajuato, with the first installation of Sloan’s TruFlush anti-vandalism flushometer in Mexico.

For Amistad Industrial Park, not only is water savings important, but also the health and wellness of all of its patrons, including people with disabilities. For this reason, the combos WETS-2020.1001-1.28 installed in Milwaukee, in Torreón, were the ideal choice for the water closet rooms inside this important industrial park.

Sloan Combos WEUS-1006.1001-1.0 grant efficiency and water savings in the Milwaukee corporate, in Torreón, spending only 3.8 liters in every flush. Products that helped obtain LEED Certification in Amistad Industrial Park.

Hygiene, durability, and easy maintenance were key elements needed for the water closet rooms at Lennox Martinrea in Ramos Arizpe Industrial Park. The Sloan SF-2150 battery-powered faucets were the ideal choice, with a total use of 1.9 liters per minute, offering an important daily water saving in the park.

At Lennox, Sloan WES-4000 vitreous china waterfree urinals were also installed with a WES-150 hydraulic sealed cartridge that eliminates bad odors inside commercial restrooms.

At Torre Diana, responsible water management was key to achieving LEED Certification, an international recognition for sustainable construction. Behind this accomplishment, Sloan’s technology played a fundamental role.

Projects like Torre Diana demonstrate how Sloan’s solutions have become strategic allies in the development of buildings that integrate functionality, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Confidence in Results

After 10 years of operation, the owners sought LEED Gold Certification—and once again, Sloan was the brand of choice for restroom operations. This time, the selected products included high-efficiency vitreous china and flushometer combos: WETS 5050.1401-1.28, WEUS 6000.1401-0.125, and EBF 85 faucets.

Because Sloan products contribute valuable points toward water savings in restroom fixtures—and since the brand now also offered its own vitreous china—Reichmann International decided to continue working with Sloan. Moreover, the efficiency of Sloan’s products over the past decade, combined with the reliable post-sale service provided by Sloan de México, left them thoroughly satisfied.

Productivity, innovation, and environmental awareness define Torre Mayor.

Torre Mayor began the tradition of vertical developments that is now a trend across the country. The building is located at 505 Avenida Reforma, in what was once the Chapultepec Cinema. After assuming the leadership of the Reichman International company, owned by Paul Reichman, the architect who designed the building, construction was completed in 2002.

Torre Mayor has a height of 225 meters over 55 floors, in addition to 4 underground parking levels and 9 above street level, with more than 2,000 self-service spaces. The building is equipped with 29 elevators and 84,135 square meters of office spaces, pressurized emergency stairs, automatic units, air conditioning, mechanical, and electrical and telecommunications systems on each floor. Torre Mayor is included among the most resistant skyscrapers in the world and the one with the highest seismic tolerance on a world scale, with a maximum tolerance of 9.0 on the Richter scale.

Sloan's specification and sales department approached the site and worked with Gutierrez Tello's facilities team to select equipment that met the ICA-Reichman developer requirements. Sloan won the specification, and later, after 10 years of service, the owners sought LEED Gold Certification, and again the teams selected Sloan.

Sloan EBF-85 Faucets, the best choice for water efficiency

The restrooms on the 55 floors of Torre Mayor have the Optima® EBF-85 Sensor Faucets with battery power and an expenditure of 1.9 L per minute, resulting in significant savings in water consumption and increased hygiene for users.

Maximum water savings for a building with an ecological conscience

For Torre Mayor, one of the key points in the LEED Certification is water care, which is why Sloan equipment was changed from 3.5 L to 0.5 L per discharge, with the WEUS 6000.1401-0.125 urinal and flushometer combos.

Achieving efficiency and sustainability

Among other actions that Torre Mayor implemented to obtain the LEED Gold Certification was the change of the water closets from 6 to 4.5 L per flush with ceramic combos, WETS 5050.1401-1.28 flushometers.

Optimized energy, quick drying

The new generation of Sloan XLERATOR® EHD-501 Hand Dryers gives Torre Mayor restrooms greater drying power. The fast drying time, reduced noise levels, and greater energy efficiency provide an optimized experience.

Founded by Buren Williford and family-owned since 1965, SPC Mechanical provides HVAC and plumbing services for several different markets, including commercial, government, healthcare, and industrial sectors. Backed by its exceptional work and reputation, SPC has steadily expanded over the years into locations throughout North Carolina, including a location in Charlotte.

In September 2019, the company began construction on its brand-new headquarters in Wendell, NC. The 40,000-square-foot building was completed in June 2021 and exclusively features Sloan restroom products. SPC chose Sloan because the SPC team was eager to practice what it preaches, as it specifies Sloan for its own customers. In addition, SPC wanted to stay at the forefront of restroom design, incorporating touch-free, aesthetically pleasing products that also make facility maintenance much easier.

Look Good, Feel Good

When designing new corporate headquarters, it’s important to specify top-notch products and accessories throughout the building, and that includes restrooms.

“When we were researching fixtures to put in the SPC headquarters office, we found Sloan products to be of superior quality,” said Addison Powell, project manager, SPC Mechanical. The new restrooms are headlined by Sloan’s DSWD-81000, 82000, and 83000 Designer Series™ Wall-mounted Weir Deck Sinks and EFX-250 BASYS® Battery-powered Deck-mounted Faucets—two products that bring a sleek, modern aesthetic that aligns perfectly with SPC’s vision.

Visually striking in a quartz desert silver color, these upscale sinks and faucets catch the eye of employees and visitors the moment they enter the restroom. The faucets also are engraved with the SPC Mechanical logo, a unique feature that was a big selling point to the team. “Our customers find that is an impressive touch to detail,” Powell said. “When they ask how we came across that feature, we explain that is something Sloan offers, and they can do the same with any company logo.”

Taking Care of Business

The new restrooms at SPC Mechanical are optimized for more than just the user – Sloan’s touch-free restroom products were designed with ease of service as a top priority. For example, the BASYS Faucets feature a variety of components engineered to streamline services, such as automatic shut-off capability, visible diagnostics that indicate the health and status of key components, power options, sleep mode, and much more.

Additionally, the SU-7419 Washdown Urinals and ST-2469 Wall-mounted Water Closets are equipped with SloanTec® Hydrophobic Glaze—a unique, proprietary glaze that inhibits the growth of germs and bacteria, making the fixtures easier to clean and keeping them cleaner longer.

Sign of the Times

Given today’s heightened awareness around hand hygiene, next-generation restrooms must include touch-free products. Sloan delivered on this front for SPC Mechanical Headquarters by installing contactless CX 8158 Water Closet Flushometers and CX 8198 Urinal Flushometers, as well as hands-free faucets. These flushometers and faucets feature sensor technology that allows the user to eliminate touchpoints where germs can breed. “When we moved in here in June 2021, COVID was still a concern,” Powell said, “so it’s been really beneficial to have the Sloan touch-free products.”

Built in 1921, the Old Chicago Post Office was once the largest of its kind in the world, capable of handling 19 million pieces of mail each day. But after sitting vacant for nearly two decades, the historic building underwent the largest historic redevelopment in the nation in 2019 to serve as one of Chicago’s business hubs. Current tenants include well-known names such as Walgreens, Uber, Home Chef, as well as a wide range of additional corporations.

Tasked with specifying products for the extensive retrofit, a renown architectural firm wanted to specify beautiful, hygiene-friendly, and sustainable building products throughout the building—and the restroom was no exception. The result: elegant, water-saving, and touch-free Sloan products in each of the architectural icon’s restrooms spanning 13 floors and 2.5 million square feet.

A Golden Touch

From the minute guests enter the main lobby they are met with a beautiful golden bronze aesthetic—from gold turnstiles to gold mosaic tile and more—an aesthetic that has been a hallmark of the building since its inception in the 1920s. The architectural firm wanted that same design theme to carry over into the restroom as well, specifying Sloan’s Polished Brass special finish on all Optima® EAF-275 Faucets and Sloan® ESD-2000 Soap Dispensers throughout the building. Luxurious and eye-catching with a touch of gold, Sloan’s Polished Brass delivers the golden bronze design that has become synonymous with the Old Post Office and extends it into the restroom to add an element of high design to the handwashing experience.

Hygiene Meets Sustainability

While the project was completed before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Old Chicago Post Office wanted to provide users with a touch-free restroom environment. Royal 152 ESS (non-TMO) Flushometer—installed in the building’s office area for employees—and EAF-275 Faucets in the public restrooms deliver the hygienic benefits across all aspects of the iconic facility that tenants have come to expect in today’s commercial environment. In addition to their hygienic benefits, each Sloan fixture also provides a water-saving element that contributes to the Old Post Office achieving both LEED Gold and WELL building certification.

The leading tool for advancing health and well-being in buildings globally, the WELL Health-Safety rating seal on a building indicates confidence and trust to guests. Sloan’s Royal Flushometers provide a 1.28 gpf, while Sloan’s sensor-operated faucets help conserve water with programmed shut-offs during the scrubbing portion of the handwashing process, which is 20 seconds as per CDC guidelines.

Fulton East, an office and retail building in Chicago’s Fulton Market District, represents a bold new standard in architectural innovation. Sloan played a pivotal role in setting this standard by providing restroom solutions that excel in aesthetics, maintenance ease, and sustainability.
