Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) serves as a critical hub for Delta Airlines, facilitating over 150 peak-day departures to 55 global destinations. As part of Delta's recent $2.3 billion Sky Way project, significant upgrades were needed for the back-of-house restrooms in Terminal 2, which had remained untouched for nearly two decades. To address these challenges, Delta turned to Sloan for its ability to meet the airline’s standards for sustainability, ease of maintenance, and improved aesthetics.

Delta’s specification of Sloan’s SS-3103 Sinks and EHD-501-ECO Hand Dryers is making the lives of maintenance teams much easier. The SS-3103 Sinks are made of white vitreous china with SloanTec® Hydrophobic Glaze, which inhibits germ growth and minimizes cleaning efforts. Additionally, their wall-mounted design with a self-draining deck area prevents water buildup and reduces maintenance time.

Consistently ranked among the top healthcare providers in the U.S., Inova Health System wanted to combine its Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in one central building expansion on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

Elmhurst Hospital had a simple goal—they didn’t want it to feel like a hospital. Architectural design firms Albert Kahn Associates, Inc. and Pratt Design Studio, together with Korda/Nemeth Engineering were tasked with reimagining a new $450 million health care campus that incorporated high-tech, comprehensive care with a home-like appeal.

The result was an 866,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art acute health care facility redesigned for patient-centered comfort inside and out. The contemporary Prairie-style design included thoughtful details like libraries and kitchens, all with abundant natural light. Sloan products were the perfect fit for both the facility manager’s maintenance goals as well as the architects’ vision. In fact, Sloan products are prominent throughout the new hospital in the public and private patient restrooms, giving added value to the hospital system’s tagline, “Healthy Driven.”

Fresh and Clean

The new 295 private, same-hand patient rooms were designed for comfort and safety—of the patients as well as hospital staff. Patients need only place their hands under the faucet head to activate water flow, allowing their nurse or caregiver to support them more easily. The faucet's clean lines and chrome-plated finish added a sleek vibe to the hotel-like design.

The Chow Tai Fook (CTF) Finance Centre, also known as Canton East Tower, was completed in 2016. The 530-meter tower ascends from office, to hotel, to restaurant, to entertainment, and shopping.

It was important for the CTF Center to integrate the faucets and soap dispensers into the overall restroom design while providing visitors with a touch-free, comfortable experience. Ease of maintenance was also vital to CTF when selecting restroom products. As a super-high-rise complex, the commercial area of CTF Finance Center specified Sloan’s Optima® ETF-80 Faucets and ESD-250 Liquid Soap Dispensers, both with polished chrome finish to highlight the building’s modern design. The flow rate is a water-efficient 1.9 Lpm (0.5 gpm). The faucets and soap dispensers are also touch-free and provide greater hand hygiene for users.

Coppel, a well-known department store chain, has become one of the most important distributors of goods and services in Mexico. Founded by Enrique Coppel Tamayo in 1941 in the city of Culiacan Sinaloa, Coppel has experienced continual growth and today has a presence in more than 450 cities. The chain is also one of the top 10 most important employers in the country.

According to Global Powers of Retailing 2021 by Deloitte, Coppel is the second-most important retail company in México and fifth in Latin America. Coppel has jumped 40 positions in the ranking of the 250 biggest retailers in the world, from position 153 to 113 within a year.

Strength in sustainability

In 2021, Coppel received the recognition of Clean Transportation Program from SEMARNAT (Environment and Natural Resources Department) and SCT (Transportation and Communications Department), for their improvements in areas such as aerodynamics, weight reduction, use of new technologies, and operator training. Additionally, with improvements in its transportation fleet, Coppel achieved a CO2 reduction of 15 thousand tons, fully integrating itself into the Clean Transportation Program.

Coppel has achieved a total saving of 399,600 square meters of water in a period of 9 years over its 900 branches, making them a leading corporation in the optimization of natural resources. To accomplish this goal, Coppel allied with Sloan, whose products throughout 9 years of commercial partnership have helped in the care of water, a vital resource, and has made Coppel a successful company in terms of sustainability.

Sloan’s WETS 2020.1001-1.28 Floor-mount Water Closet and Flushometer Combos bring efficiency and water savings to the water closet rooms of Coppel, using only 4.8L per flush. The safety bars of Sloan’s model SL 8924 (exclusive to the Mexican market) contribute to increased security for people of all abilities.

Sloan’s WEUS 1000.1001-0.125 Urinal and Flushometer Combos were the perfect choice since they only use 0.5L per flush, a fact that was crucial in the decision of installing Sloan products at Coppel.

Nothing compares to the energy saving of Sloan’s Xlerator Hand Dryers installed at water closet rooms in Coppel stores, with a dry time of only 8 seconds and regulated temperature and noise.

With the state of California in the midst of a drought and potable water shortage, a city in the West Los Angeles Region (City) decided to be proactive in reducing its water usage.

That’s exactly what the City did when it commenced its Water Efficient Fixture Project as part of its Water Conservation Plan. The Project specified the installation of a total of 231 Sloan products, including Sloan’s UPPERCUT® dual-flush flushometers as well as its waterfree urinals at 24 City properties.
 

Known for their water-saving features, Sloan’s products lived up to their reputation. Sloan fixtures achieved an average 35 percent water use reduction over the course of a three-month study of six of the City’s largest locations, more than doubling the State’s 16 percent water use reduction mandate.

Getting a Handle on the Drought

A total of 206 flushometers were replaced with Sloan’s UPPERCUT dual-flush flushometers. Known for their green handles and proven water-reduction capabilities, Sloan’s UPPERCUT fixtures replaced the City’s 3.5 gpf water closets with new 1.6/1.1 gpf dual-flush diaphragms, which use 1.6 gpf for solid waste and only 1.1 gpf for liquid waste. The retrofit enabled the community to use the right amount of water for the right type of flush, significantly reducing water waste.

100% Efficient

In total, 25 1.0 gpf urinals were replaced with waterfree models in high traffic areas, including City parks, community meeting facilities and other recreational facilities, all of which attract a high volume of visitors, especially on the weekends. Not only do Sloan’s waterfree urinals achieve 100 percent water savings, their touch-free operation improves hygiene.
